Be Part of Our Group
What We Offer
We offer an interdisciplinary and supportive research environment with opportunities to build expertise at the interface of quantum chemistry and machine learning, contribute to open-source scientific software, and work on problems with both fundamental and practical impact. Our group has a collaborative and inclusive culture, bringing together individuals from around the world with backgrounds in chemistry, physics, computer science, mathematics, statistics, and engineering. We support each other’s growth, strive to excel together, and make good memories along the way. We celebrate each other’s achievements and share a sense of collective success.
What We Look For
We welcome motivated applicants at all stages who are eager to bring their skills and curiosity to our research endeavours. We value openness, critical thinking, creativity, collegiality, and a positive spirit (after all, research involves many failed experiments!). Relevant backgrounds include, but are not limited to, quantum chemistry, computational chemistry, molecular dynamics, (bio)molecular modelling, machine learning, scientific computing, and software development. Relevant skills include programming (preferably Python), version control (preferably Git/GitHub), data analysis, automation, and high-performance computing.
How To Apply
To apply, please email Prof. Farnaz Heidar-Zadeh with your CV (and transcripts for students) along with a brief but personalized statement outlining your research experiences and interests, background and skills, what you hope to learn, and your motivation for joining our group. Our main advice is to make your email personal, refrain from repeating your credentials, and to show us who you are beyond your CV.
There may be opportunities for Prof. Farnaz Heidar-Zadeh to fund your position; however, we encourage you to apply for internal and external funding opportunities. We are happy to provide support and mentorship throughout the application process, as time permits. For more information on opportunities at different career stages, please see the section below.

Our group co-supervises and co-mentors individuals through the Google Summer of Codes (GSoC) and Winter of Code internship programs each year. For more information on how to apply, please visit the QC-Devs Join page.
